In the UK, there will be new tax regulations regarding internet platform reporting starting in 2024. Uber will need to begin obtaining all required tax information from new drivers who download the app on January 1, 2024. Uber will provide HMRC with this information regarding these drivers on January 31, 2025.
The drivers who registered before December 31, 2023, will not have their information shared with HMRC until further notice.
Early in 2024, details regarding the drivers of today will be made public.
You don’t need to take any action as of right now in response to this email.
What is happening?
“Digital platforms” refers to websites and apps that facilitate the provision of products and services. Food delivery services, short-term rentals, and private and vehicle rental services are a few examples.
Uber will be required, along with other digital platforms, to formally report to HMRC the earnings of every driver in the United Kingdom who works on the platform. If Uber didn’t comply with the law, they ran the risk of facing harsh penalties.
When will this go place?
- New drivers who download the Uber app will have to provide Uber with the required tax information as of January 1, 2024. HMRC will receive this information regarding these vehicles on January 31, 2025.
